Vibration absorber is a passive vibration control device. This work numerically investigates the ability of SMA bar as an adaptive passive vibration absorber. SMA behavior is described by the constitutive model developed by Lagoudas and co-workers. Initially, displacement transmissibility curve for a base excited single-degree of freedom SMA oscillator is generated for different excitation amplitudes and ambient condition. Parameters of the primary system are obtained from displacement transmissibility curve and base excitation amplitude. The nonlinear material property of SMA allows the vibration absorber to attain vibration reduction of the primary system for a wider range of frequencies.
