There are physical and subjective methods evaluating the speech transmission performance in a room. Recently, many researches have been undertaken to subjective evaluation methods in order to know the speech recognition of the listeners directly. As the results, ISO 9921 suggests the method to infer the speech recognition level based on the speech transmission index(STI) of rooms. In Korea, two methods are being used to evaluate the Korean speech intelligibility; CVC and PBW methods. However, there is no standard to judge the results of each method. The present study was begun to establish the evaluation standard for speech intelligibility tests in Korea. In order to this, totally 42 classrooms were investigated with their plan types and interior finishing materials. Among them, 5 classrooms determinants by the size were selected and the both physical measurement and subjective tests were accomplished. Finally, the results from both measured STI and the Korea speech intelligibility tests were so analyzed that the base for the comparison of two different evaluation methods may be made for the first time in Korea.
