Estimation of aerodynamic noise is important for aircraft applications, high speed trains, air conditioning ducts etc. Similarly, estimation of hydrodynamic noise is important in case of marine risers, towed arrays, sonar applications etc. This paper investigates the far field noise generated by uniform flow over a circular cylinder at Reynolds number 90000 using Large Eddy Simulations (LES). A comparison of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic noise for Re number 90000 is presented in this paper. Three dimensional unsteady numerical simulations are performed using finite volume Navier-Stokes solver, applying Smagorinsky model for LES. Ffocs William acoustic analogy is used to obtain far field acoustic pressure from CFD results. Aerodynamic simulations are carried out for Re 90000 and results are favorably compared with experiment (Revell et al.) and previous numerical simulations (Orselli et al.).
