Vital sign monitoring systems using sensors, which are brought into contact with or closed to a body surface, are generally prevalent. We have studied about non-contact measurement of respiration and heart rate using airborne ultrasound. In previous works, the displacement of the chest due to breathing and heartbeat was measured from variation of transit times of ultrasound reflected from the chest surface. However, this method cannot apply subjects who wear clothing. In this paper, the method of measurement of the displacement of the neck side is proposed. In subject experiment, breathing and heartbeat of the subject in a sitting position were measured by using a loudspeaker and a microphone. The received signal had the reflected echo from the face, neck and chest. The components of echoes from the neck were extracted and the waveform of breathing and heart beat were obtained. In this experiment, the displacement due to breathing and heartbeat can be separately measured, and the frequency of heart rate measured by ultrasound and measured by pulse wave sensor which was contact with the subjects finger were the same.
