In accordance with the International Standard ISO 717-1:2013, a weighted sound reduction index and a spectral adaptation term should be used for airborne sound insulation rating in buildings and of building elements. The sum of these parameters makes it possible to estimate the A-weighted sound pressure level decrease by an obstacle. The spectral adaptation term is introduced to take into account the nature of sound spectrum penetrating through a barrier. The standard establishes two types of spectra for determining the value of a spectral adaptation term: the pink noise spectrum, recommended mainly for estimation of sound insulation of household noise by internal structures of buildings, and the traffic noise spectrum, corresponding to the A-corrected normalized noise of urban vehicles in accordance with European Standard EN 1793-3:1997. These two types of spectra cannot cover the variety of spectra of noise sources encountered outside and inside buildings. In this paper, the practical examples of determination of the corresponding parameters of sound insulation and A-weighted sound pressure reduction of an external wall for various types of trains operated on the railway roads of Russia and of a partition between two cinema halls for noise spectrum of sound in one of them are given and some corrections of ISO 717-1:2013 recommendation are proposed.
