Phosphate based glasses 48P2O5—(32—x)CaO—20Na2O—xCaF2 (x = 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 mol%, hereafter, termed as F0, F1, F2, F3 and F4 respectively) with different fluoride content were prepared using melt quenching technique. To study the influence of fluoride on the physico-chemical properties and bioactivity of phosphate based glasses, various experimental analysis such as density, elastic moduli, and micro hardness as a function of fluoride content were carried out. The decreasing trend in shear and Young’s modulus during the addition of fluoride content showed that the addition of fluoride acts as network modifier and make softening the glass network. The observed elastic moduli showed the anisotropic nature of all the prepared fluorophosphate glass samples. Further, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectra and X-ray diffraction pattern showed the structural changes in the glass samples and formation of crystalline fluoroapatite on glass surface during 21 days in vitro studies due to the addition of fluoride content.
